It is believed that the idol, so called Perumthrikovil Temple was erected and consecrated by Sage Vasishta some 3000 years ago. This temple was owned by Alathiyur Grama Namboodiri. Afterwards it was taken over by Vettath Raja. Then the temple came under the management of Zamorin Raja of Kozhikode. This temple situates in Alathiyur village, Tirur Taluk, Malappuram district. Here Lord Sree Rama pauses with a peculiar expression on his face.
There is no Sita along with him. After Ravana’s extortion of Sita, Sree Rama was giving code word on the ears of Sree Hanuman to convey Sita and ordered him to seek her. Such a peculiar expression is vividly seen on the face of Sree Rama’s idol in this temple. Here the temple of Sree Hanuman is adjacent to the main temple of Sree Rama. Sree Hanuman stands leaning forward to hear his master’s words with a club in his hand. The numerous Gods who bestowed their enormous power on Sree Hanuman are accomplishing his mission, that is seeking Goddess Sita.
Temple of Sree Lakshmana situates a few metres away from the main temple and it is believed that Sree Lakshmana was keeping away to avoid hearing the confidential talk between Sree Rama and Sree Hanuman. There is a long granite stone at one end of this platform and it symbolises the sea. Devotees come running and leap over this long stone. By doing this, auspicious result is expected especially for the better health and life of children.
