Two great warriors of “Nilanka” (A Local Village near Kottakkal Ateeri) were defeated by British forces after a fierce fight, The Cruel British Soldiers Killed these brave fighters and beheaded them, the bodies were thrown in to “Atteeri Thodu” (Canal), The floating bodies found by boatmen near Therkayam,(Valiyora) Kadalundi River, they buried the bodies on banks of Kadlundi river and a shrine (Jaram) were built on the Graves, The Land where the Shrine was built belonged to the Families of Madappally, there after the shire been called as Madappali Jaram
The People in “Nilanka Atteeri” came to know that the bodies of their beloved ones are buried with due rites and respect, they express their sincere gratitude towards the people of Valiyora, They used to visit the graves in groups and created a festive mood during the visits, gradually the festival turned in to annual organized events and it become a part of beliefs
